Garrett is going to be 10 in two weeks! Where does the time go? Didn't we just bring him home from the hospital? Well, I guess not. (Sigh) He is such a funny boy! He has such an imagination, always creating stories and games. Garrett is my sweet boy, just not to his sister! LOL I love that he still tells me he loves me in the middle of the day...out of the blue. His smile melts my heart. Garrett still thinks his Dad can solve any problem. Oh, this will pass too...so we hold on to this sweet boy, this sweet moment. When we don't embarrass him, kisses come often, and laughs fill our home. I love you Garrett!

Reagan is not always easy...rarely is she easy. LOL She is either all or nothing! All happy...all mad..you get the idea! God has made her unique and I love her laugh and smile. Brian says her laugh is contagious...thankfully he's right.

I took the kids out to do the Valentine's pictures last weekend. It was fun. My hope is to figure out my camera on manual modes and keep the kids from getting bored at the same time! This is NOT EASY! I took a ton of pictures, most of which were not worth saving! LOL My mind was so much on hurrying up and posing the kids, as my window of opportunity is small before fighting or complaining begins, that I never even changed my apeture or other settings once I got started! Not the great photographer I hope to become! LOL But I am learning, and practice makes....well better pictures! Right? I hope you enjoy the pictures below. I got a bit creative with a few shots in different finishes. It's fun to play around a bit. Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Fishing Memories

In the spirit of catching up in 2010 I did a scrap page of Garrett's first fish. I don't remember if it is his first fishing trip, but when you scrap in the past it's the best I can do! LOL We think Garrett was 4 years old here. Brian has this picture in his office with the date on it and will have to confirm that on Monday! But for now, I hope you enjoy the fishing memory with us. Garrett is such a sweet boy and this is one of our favorite moments from the past.

I have been trying to catch up on my holiday pictures. When I began to scrap the Christmas pictures, I realized I never did the Halloween stuff! Sorry! I know the grandparents wanted to see those. Okay, I tried to go Private with our blog....concerned about people that I don't know (sickos and such) watching the kiddos. However, another problem occurred. People didn't use the email invite...I got emails asking to "re invite"...not sure how to do that! :-) Then, others couldn't get in because I didn't have their email. I have changed it back to Public for now.
Brian's parents are moving to California in the near future (fingers crossed the house will sell quickly) so I'm not really sure if it will be necessary to keep the blog anyway. Let me know? If you read the blog, would you leave a comment on this post? Nothing big...just hey, I read it occasionally...or keep blog?
We are going into Thanksgiving week. A crazy time at work for Brian and a fun time for the kids at school. As for me? Can you say Black Friday? LOL Oh yeah, I'll be hitting the web sales for sure! And of course our tradition of getting the tree up on that day as well. I'm just excited to make turkey soup!

I have heard many things about putting personal information on the blogs and have always just thought it was not a big deal. Surly only my family/friends care about my family, right? All about me!

I have a very hard time being the focus of peoples attention. I'd rather be the one behind the camera, scrapping things of my kids/husband, and basicly planning behind the scenses. So, this writing assignment for a class I'm taking was a difficult one for me. But I realized as I did it that my kids need a record of me too. They need to know what Mom liked and honestly felt. I'm glad I did it. It may not happen very often (or ever again!) but at least they will have this piece in their books of Mom and know that I was always present. Hopefully they will see the things that interest me most are all things that help me be a better Mom and show my love for them in many ways.

Hello All! I know that is has been over a month since I posted....SORRY! In the last post I said I would be putting in some pics from our last vacation at the beach. Well, hopefully better late that never! :-)
School started for both kids. Reagan is in kindergarten this year & Garrett is the big 4th grader! We are BUSY! I always have a bit of Mama Meltdown in the beginning of each school year, and this year is no exception! Plus we have added some extra activities this year. Reagan started gymnastics and Garrett started karate. Garrett goes to karate twice a week and Reagan has gymnastics on Wednesdays. They both love it! However, is does make our schedules a bit more crazy! We are gone three days a week after school (times vary), plus time for homework. TV is a real treat during the week now! Haha. I will take some pictures of the kids doing their different activities and try to get them loaded soon. I won't promise, but I will try! :-)
Reagan is home sick today with the flu. Shoot, poor baby! She has a fever and everything. At least it's the weekend. We will have a very low key weekend, which sound good to me.
We have also been busy with Brian's parents in town from Oklahoma. They are on their way back home now, but have decided to sell their house there and come to CA to be near the family. We are all happy for this decision and hope it will be a quick sell and move.

Getting Nothing Done!

I wanted to get a scrapbook page done today for Reagan. I just did one for Garrett (see last post) & I have been wanting to do one with her birthday pictures. I had an idea, actually a jump off from a layout I saw on the web. I did my "chores" this morning...then got to work on this after lunch. TWO HOURS LATER! I am done! I'm very SLOW! Mostly because I have to find all the stuff I want to use in many different folders. Then I see something I need to organize in a folder...delete this...move that...you get the idea! One day I will know my folders & my skills will be such that I can do this more quickly. In the mean time....I'm getting nothing else done!
Hope you like it! Reagan loved it & I will be sending it to Costco for printing. But then again, it's a shame to just send two layouts for print...maybe I'll do a few more....

Flash From The Past!

Time goes by too fast! Brian took the kid's out to swim in the pool this morning while I ran to get some milk at the store. When I got back, I was watching them out the window for a moment. I couldn't help but think back to a time when they were small, just experiencing water for the first time...the first summer. So, today I thought I'd include you in my memories of Garrett's first pool. Of course, Reagan's first pool is the pool we all enjoy today. Each day, in the moment, sometimes as a Mom the day seems to last forever (not always in a good way!). But in the quiet moments, when they don't know I'm watching, I remember back. It doesn't seem that long ago when my big 9 year old was just a baby....time flies!

Class 12: Storyboards

Today I learned a few really cool things on the Photo Shop Elements program. The class was on storyboards. Although I used some family pictures taken by my friend recently, I learned how to put together a storyboard. I won't bore you with all the details, although I would love to because I'm excited about the stuff!! Anyway, here is my quick storyboard design. You will see more in the future!

This post is to show some of the tricks I'm learning while playing with photos, but this one has a story.
Reagan can drive a saint crazy sometimes! Actually, both of our kids can! LOL But nothing melts my heart more that when I hug her during the day, or when giving kisses & hugs goodnight and we say these simple words...I love you. I always say, "Reagan, I love you!" and she will often reply, "I love you more!" I have never taught her that or said it myself, but WOW does it pull at my heart strings! :-) In moments like that I find my refuge, my batteries recharging, in that moment I know I'm working toward raising two amazing kids. Love is a wonderful thing, it knows no limits.

My photoshop class was AWESOME today!!! It showed how to give pictures a vintage/washed out look using adjustment layers & blending modes! Cool! So, here I did a sample picture on Brian & Reagan. I will get better with practice, but I'm so excited to play with this new knowledge! Check it out!

For those who use Photoshop, another cool trick I learned is to go into Edit, Preferences, General, then click on the Zoom with Scroll Wheel box. This is a terrific tool! Now I don't have to use the Ctrl & -/+ sign anymore to zoom in on a project! Oh yeah! Great tip...but you have to use the program to fully appreciate why I'm so excited! :-)

Photo Shop Online Class!

Hi All! I have started a Photo Shop Elements (free) class online. The first lesson was today. Even though I know the basics of what they discussed today...I learned how to size my pics by the cropping ratio...saving time in the cropping process when I upload to Costco. So, pretty cool! I also learned a few tricks/easier steps to do things that I do all the time. Very Cool! The class lasts for two weeks. Not sure just how many lessons will be given, but it's free so I won't complain! :-)

It is HOT here! We are spending a lot of time by our pool. The kids swim each day, then again when Brian gets home from work. I don't know which day this was, sometime last week I think! We love having a pool at the house. It has been such a blessing to have it each summer in the 100+ degrees weather! Here is some pictures of one of our pool moments. The kids love the canoe that Brian brought home for us. There isn't much more to do in this heat. Hope you like seeing the kids at play....

Not a care in the world! I love the way Garrett embraces every moment. Reagan wants to be just like him.

5 Year Old Birthday Pictures...A Little Late!

I've shared this before...Reagan is my best model! By this I mean, she is the only one that will pose for me for more than two seconds!! So, I took the opportunity to do some 5 year old pictures for her birthday this year. I know time has past, sorry! I'm a bit behind on my posting. Here is the big girl at age 5! She is a sassy, funny, bright, and loving little girl. With Reagan in the house, life is never boring! She keeps us on our toes and a smile on our faces!

Because this is my favorite picture from that day...I couldn't help playing with is a bit!

Reagan picked out the jewelry for this photo session. She said she was older now...and big girls where jewelry! How can you argue with that?

**Disclaimer! I am a BEGINNER in photograpy and photo editing! Please view with kindness! Also, there are a ton of pictures! This is because this is a proofing of sorts for Brian's parents (and mine) in Oklahoma.**

We had a big Photograpy weekend. I wanted to replace some shots that didn't turn out during our session with our photographer. Problem is, she made it look soooo easy!! IT'S NOT! At least not for this beginner! I felt that everything was going against me. First, we went to the same location that we took the photos with the photographer. She was there with another family! How embarrassing! She never saw us, as we stayed on the other side of the brush...but that made the backgrounds very limited! Then there was the wind! Another problem for me! So we took a couple QUICK shots and ran, before she spotted me playing ametaur photographer! Brian was kind enough to take a few more shots in the backyard. Here are a few:

Let me tell you, the kids were ready to blow off steam after there Mom was telling them what to do with the camera! So we will start with their idea first!

These were all taken "on location". I tried to hard to take pictures at the same location the photographer did, so the pictures would match the ones she took. I was so disappointed when several with just Brian and the kids didn't turn out from our session with her. Heres just the few I got.

I am aware that the sun is shining (& not in a good way!) on my husbands face! But it's one of the best shots I got of the "location" so here it is for you! LOL

I have become obsessed with my new hobby! Photography! I have been scrap booking for a while now, using my Canon point & shoot camera. I still like it and it has many uses, but Brian got me a Canon Rebel SLR! OH YEAH BABY! I am tickled pink! Cloud nine! So, now I am getting books from the library trying to learn how to take GOOD pictures. I will be showing off my kids on the blog a lot, as they are my best test subjects. Reagan is with me the most, so she will be used probably more than Garrett. But I will get him as much as his 9 year old personality will allow. Here are some shots I took this morning in our backyard. I really need to step out of my box and think artistically (not good at that at all) to take great pictures at nice angles. It's all about backgrounds and creativity...and of course cute subjects! :-) I've got those...now I just need knowledge and creativity! LOL

Hello all! We had our pictures taken for my Mother's Day present. I am sooo HAPPY that we did! It has been forever since Brian & I took pictures. I love how the shots turned out! The photographer was great (http://ashlylaynephoto.com/?load=flash). I will cherish these for a lifetime!
We have had a lot of activity at our house. We have a new dog! She is a year old. I will post all about her this week (with pictures of course!)

Let's Catch Up! One BIG Post!

Hello! I know it has been almost a month since I've posted! Sorry! Time as just gotten away with me! I am just now starting to catch my breath and thought I'd take a few moments to catch you up too! :-) We have been busy at the Sutton House! Lots of events, birthdays, a carnival, Mother's Day, vacation....I will start with a few highlights from each. I told you it would be a big post! But there will be lots of pictures along the way...I hope you stay with me as I give you the run down!

First there was the preschool carnival. My last BIG event with Bakersfield Parent Nursery. Reagan will be off to kindergarten this fall. I am very ready to have the kids at one school. The carnival was tiring for me, fun for the kids. It turned out great and raised a lot of much needed funds for the preschool.

Next we had a Birthday Bash for BOTH kids at Chuck E. Cheese. Each of our kids wanted to go to Disneyland for their birthday, but wanted to have a party with their friends as well. So, we did a joint b-day party! The kids invited 5 of their friends each and had a blast.!

Then there was my birthday...the big 36! I had a great day. Brian & the kids got me a dual oven...I LOVE IT! I love to cook & bake so this was the perfect gift.
Next Mothers Day. I had a great day with the family. I had a headache, but I got to take a rare nap! My family gave me a family portrait package as a gift. I am so excited to do this! We are having the photographer meet us next Saturday to do the shoot. So, stay tuned for professional pictures.

We just got back from vacation. Reagan's birthday was on May 14th. We went to Disneyland (as we did for Garrett's b-day) we had a great time. We met (Aunt)Danielle & (Cousin) Wyatt on the second day....

Here some shots on Reagan's birthday! She got that hat & didn't take it off for DAYS!

This trip we spent some time at the hotel pool. There was a great water slide, that Garrett loved. Reagan was too afraid to try it, but liked to swim anyway!

We were all exhausted as we left on day three from Disney. Reagan wouldn't take off her hat in the car...even when she fell asleep.

Brian took us out fishing the weekend before Disney. The kids love to go out on the boat. We didn't catch anything, but there were plenty of snacks and the radio kept Reagan busy in between. Garrett was really into it this trip. It was a nice morning on the water.

Since we have returned, Brian has been installing ceiling fans. We replaced three in the house yesterday & today. It is HOT in Bakersfield! We are spending most of the day by our pool. We will be grilling Turkay Burgers tonight. Yum! Here is the family chilling!

Happy Easter Everyone! We have had a great day! The kids were up bright and early to see what the Easter Bunny brought them. Reagan even went right to sleep last night so the Easter Bunny could come! Gee, I wish he could come everyday! Garrett was so happy! The Easter Bunny brought him a strategy guide for a Pokemon game he just recently received (a gift for getting good grades on his report card). Reagan got a new Barbie Mermaid set for the bath tub. It comes complete with two dolls a swing for them, a slide, and shower. She is taking her second bath of the day even as I type! Very cool! Of course, the Easter Bunny brought a ton of candy (in the baskets as well as in the plastic eggs hidden in the backyard). Below are pictures of the kids as they found their baskets this morning. Then it was off to Easter Egg Hunt. The kids were so excited to collect the eggs this year. Brian even mentioned they seemed more excited than in past years. I know there are a lot of pictures, but hey what is a blog for right? Here are a few (okay quite a few!) pictures of "The Hunt"! :-)

I will combine two posts in one today. First is Reagan at her Easter Egg Hunt for school. We met at the park. It was fun for the kids. One of the Moms dressed up like the Easter Bunny! Reagan took a look at the "Easter Bunny" and said, "That's not the Easter Bunny! I see the place where someone climbed into the costume! That's a person in a costume!" I explained (after telling her to be quiet so no other child heard her) that the Easter Bunny couldn't make it to the park, so he sent someone so the kids wouldn't be disappointed. Thankfully, that was perfectly exceptable to her! :-) And because she thought she had it all figured out...she wasn't afriad to take a picture with the Easter Bunny! Brian and the kids were outside last weekend and made a discovery! We have a family that has moved in by our front door! These two birds are very protective of there home and must have eggs in it. Mamma is always there and Dad comes and goes, but got pretty mad at Brian as he was doing the outside chores. Thankfully, they are getting used to us...& the few people that come to the front door. I don't think most people even notice our new addition when they come up the walk. It is fun to have them here. The kids take a look everyday when they get out of the car after school. Pretty cool! I hope we get to see the babies. :-)

This week is Spring Break for the kids. I am working Thursday & Friday, but we are all looking forward to some down time this week. I will post pictures of the kids after Easter. Happy Easter!

I know it hasn't been over a day since my last post...but I did another scrap page from our Disneyland trip and wanted to share. That is the actual submarine we rode in at Disneyland. And the background is a picture I took of the landscape while waiting in line for the ride. Very under the sea! :-) The birds in the middle made the sounds like on the movie. Reagan and Garrett were making them too....got real old, real quick! Oh well, it was the last ride of our trip and a great memory!

Disneyland for Garrett's 9th Birthday!

We went to Disneyland for Garrett's birthday this year. We left on Monday, and returned on Wednesday. It was a lot of fun! Garrett got a $60 gift card from Disney (because we have Annual Passes..instead of the free birthday ticket). He was so excited to spend his money on whatever he wanted! However, Garrett is not into souvenirs. He took great thought with his money. (Gee, no surprise there huh?) He purchased a Star Wars gun that shoots nerf darts & a Monopoly game with a Disney theme. It was a great purchase & the whole family has enjoyed playing the game together.
The only down side to the trip was that is was Spring Break for other parts of the country. Who knew? So it was crowded! We just aren't used to that at all, as we always go during the week (during school). We are a bit spoiled! This took a bit of adjustment for us, but we survived. A waitress at the hotel said it was considered Spring Break for Disneyland six weeks before Easter! Wow! We didn't get as much done as usual, but we enjoyed the days and went on the most important rides.
We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. We had a great view of the fireworks display from our balcony window. We really enjoyed watching the fireworks each night in the comfort of our room (and pajamas!)
Garrett had a special birthday dinner with Aunt Danielle, Uncle David, and Wyatt. We met up with them at the Rainforest Cafe. It was great to see them! Garrett loves the brain teasing puzzle they gave him for his birthday. Thanks Aunt Danielle, Uncle David & Wyatt! Reagan got her birthday present a bit early from them too. She has been playing the magnet version of Barbie paper dolls ever since! What a great idea! Thank Danielle! I will post pics of all the kids from dinner soon Nana & Papa!
We had a great time and look forward to going back soon. I came down with a cold just before the trip...still don't have my voice back! And Garrett now has it! UGH!

There have been a string of tragic events in the Sutton Fish Aquarium! It would seem Sparky (or was it Speedy?) & Flash are no longer with us! We believe Reagan's fish, Lily, has eaten them! Now I know this is harsh without proof, but we found one of the tiny fish with his head "removed"! And the other is no where to be found. You do the math! :-) Lily is the biggest fish of the tank & we have even seen her take nips at Marcus. Not Nice! The kids seem okay with it. No tears, no saddness. So, we move on....

Our newest additions to our family!

No, not kids! FISH! Brian decided that Reagan was ready to have something special in her room. Garrett had a gold fish when he was three, so this seemed like a good fit for her. Plus, Brian had saved the aquarium and stuff from before. So, off Brian went with the kids to Petco. He said they would be back in about 20 minutes. I'm the Mamma, so I know better!:-) I just smiled and waived goodbye! An hour later, Brian returns with five fish, pink rocks, a pink high heel on a rock, a treasure chest, and neon pink plants. Not such a cheap project anymore! He said it was quiet the adventure! I told him that I know what it's like to shop with both kids and I was happy that he got a taste of my pain! (Ever heard of shoe shopping? Ugh!)All in all, they had a great time. It was great for Brian to have that special time with them & on going family contributions with the care with the fish. Yes, I realize it isn't even March yet! I just wanted to change the blog theme a little early. Mostly because Garrett's birthday is March 16th & I'm sure I'll want to do something in honor of that then! :-) Crazy but true. Honestly, I get bored very quickly with the themes. Especially if it is for a holiday! Want an example? It's like that in our house too! I can't wait for Christmas to come....the day after Thanksgiving I get out all of the Christmas decorations and go for it! But the day after Christmas? It's DONE! OVER! It all comes down. Thankfully, Brian is the same way. :-)So, in my mind Valentines Day was so long ago! I've moved on!! LOL Hope you don't mind moving on with me. (at least I don't add holiday music to the blog! That would make it worse) Hey, you know me....I'm always planning ahead.

Money burning a hole in their pocket!

For Valentines Day, the kid's Nana & Papa sent them a Valentine Card and money for each of them. Thank you Nana & Papa! :-) So, Garrett began adding up his money with the money he had saved in his bank to decide on the best buy with his money. Reagan just gave me the money to put in my purse and asked me to hold it for a toy at Target. You can see where this is going right? The cards came earlier in the week, so by Saturday morning guess where we were? Oh yeah, the toy section of Target! :-) Garrett decided the Bakugan balls & cards were what he wanted, but took FOREVER trying to pick the right packs. The balls have different levels of game play powers, ehh? I don't know! But it's big business for Garrett and was quiet a decision for him. Reagan on the other had....oh drama! She wanted to go to the GIRLY area. I will not go on and on with the story, but after A LOT OF DRAMA she picked a princess costume jewelry set (complete with crown)and a set of barbie dolls. The funny thing was when we got home, I told the kids to get their banks and give me ALL the money (including a ton of coins). I guess they didn't believe me when I said they would have to spend ALL the money on the toys. They were happy to spend the total money they counted in the bank, just not so ready to give up the coins. LOL Reagan especially was not happy with the arrangement. However, I prevailed and have a bag of coins and cash to go to the bank on Tuesday (in the kids saving account, but they don't know that! Hehehe)

Life is SWEET!

Happy Valentines Day! It is a day for me, not to just do something special for my husband (although that is done as well!)but to reflect on how blessed I am to have Brian with me all year long. God did not make my husband perfect (we could never have survived), but perfect for me! Brian and I have been married for almost 16 years (our Anniversary is July 10th) and there isn't a day that goes by that we don't tell each other "I love you". He makes me LAUGH everyday with his sense of humor and way he approaches life. I love to see Brian with our children. Brian never passes Reagan without messing with her hair. He and Reagan always are making faces and acting silly. He plays with Garrett with the latest nerf gun, paper airplane, or PS3 game. Most importantly Brian takes time to listen to each child's story or thought (big or small). He is a great Dad. I am so thankful that he goes to work (and works darn hard!) everyday to provide for our family. He encourages me to stay home with the children and take care of the family, then selflessly provides to make that happen. God has given me not only my husband but my best friend. When I have free time, he is still the first one I want to spend it with...the first one I want to call on the phone....the only one I want to share my secrets with. So, today on Valentines Day I want to say, "I love you Brian"! Not for just being good to me today (but let me say thank you again for the diamond journey necklace! I Do Love It!), but for being a truly awesome husband and my best friend all year! Happy Valentines Day Honey! :-)

Hit and Run Update

I thought I should let you know what is going on with the Hit and Run Accident we had a few week ago. First, my car (Ruby) went in to the body shop last week and was fixed as good as new by the next afternoon. The damage was mostly the bumper (which was replaced) and the tow bar (which was corrected and many parts to the lights, etc replaced). There wasn't paint or body damage as the car that hit me was a Tarus (small car) and took all the impact on my tow bar (Thank God for the tow package on my Expedition). Remember the guy was going between 25-30 miles per hour when he hit me, and his car was trashed! The bill was paid for by our insurance and a $500 deductible by us (bummer!).
Now for the good stuff! :-)
I got a copy of the police report and emailed it to our insurance. In the report it stated that the car was found, impounded, and being held without release unless the police released it. The report also stated the plates on the car were stolen BUT that the VIN# on the car was traced to an OWNER! Oh Yeah! NOW WE'RE TALKING! So, our insurance traced the owner for insurance. She has insurance! SHE HAS THE SAME INSURANCE COMPANY WE DO! It get's better! She reported the car stolen, then retracted the statement saying she loned it to someone that was driving without a license. SO NOW SHE IS LIABLE FOR THE ACCIDENT AND THE CHARGES TO MY CAR! Whopee! The insurance company opened a new claim under her insurance policy and we should get our $500 back within 30 days. I should have this confirmed by tomorrow. Also, the insurance will take her statement....but the insurance agent I spoke to said it sounded like the owner of the car would know who was driving & if she would identify the guy it would be reported to the police and on his record! I want them to catch this guy!
So, that's where we stand at this point. If everything goes as it sounds, we will at least get our money back and it won't show as $$ against our insurance policy. I am so thankful for the two ladies that took the time to help and be a witness for me! If it wasn't for them, we would not have the car or a way to track these people! God Is So Good!

Is It Spring Yet?

Today was a beautiful day! It started out a bit foggy, but burned off to a almost Spring-like day. It was just too nice to stay indoors, so the kids and I loaded up to go to the park. Brian took advantage of some peace and quiet and stayed home this time, as he is still recovering from his surgery. (By the way, he is doing well. Just taking it slow. Still very sore, but the pain is getting less and less with each passing day.) Anyway! We headed to the park! I had to take my camera because it's such a nice day & I don't feel like we've taken any pictures lately. It was great to be out in the sun and watch the kids play. I am so ready for SPRING! The kids had a great time. Garrett burned hot laps on his bike, while Reagan hit the swings. Being the diva she is she was on the toys telling me when to take her picture! What a handful! I know we have a few more cold days ahead, so it was such a treat to be outside. Here are a few pictures of our time at the park. I took a ton of pictures & I will probably add them to some of my blog headers or post more of them as I edit them a bit...so stay tuned Nana & Papa! :-)

The World of Digital Scrapbooking!

I have been trying to educate myself on the program software, technichs, and tricks for digital scrapbooking. There comes a time when you've got to stop trying to learn with research & learn by trial and error. So, I just decided to get in the game! Here are my first two layouts of the kids (the younger years). I am EXTREMELY SLOW in the creation process and need to learn much. Hopefully, you will see a progression of my knowledge as you see a progression in the children's ages in the pictures! :-) It has been so fun going through Garrett's pictures (not digital) and finding the ones I want to use! He was such a cutie pie as a toddler! Enjoy the blast to the past Nana, Papa, Grandma, & Grandpa! Be kind if you see strange things in the layout. It's all new and I'm stretching my creative wings (which I didn't know I had!)

Hair Cut Attempt #2 - Failed!

Today after Garrett got out from school, the kids & I tried to go to get their hair cut. Now, this is the second attempt in as many days (read post below for how attempt #1 went). Reagan slept from 6:00 p.m. last night til 6:30 a.m. this morning and felt tons better. I guess it was only a 24 hour flu. Back to today and the trip to Great Clips. We are on the same road as yesterday and have to stop at a light. We were on Coffee headed North. Stopped at Truxtun, but the traffic had us about five cars deep (about at Frugatti's). As we stop, I look in my mirror and see the guy behind us is not going to stop in time! OH YEAH! BANG! HIT US FROM BEHIND! I was at a complete stop with plenty of room in front of me, so thankfully I did not get pushed into the car in front of me. (LET ME STOP AT THIS POINT & SAY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT! THE CHILDREN ARE ABSOLUTELY FINE. NOT A SCRATCH OR A BIT OF SORENESS OR PAIN) I see the guy in my mirror & as the light turns green, I put on my blinker to attempt to go over to the Frugatti's parking lot. (Not easy as I'm in the inside "fast" lane). The guy that hit me put his car in reverse and swerved around me (almost hitting another car)AND TAKES OFF! Yes, you heard right! Hit & Run! My first thought was, "Oh No YOU DIDN'T!" My next thought was, "Well maybe he will pull over in the Chevron lot up ahead (on the left @ Brimhall)...maybe that would be safer than hopping traffic here". So, I speed off to follow him. Well, he did go into that little lane leading to Chevron. BUT HE PULLED OFF INTO THE DIRT FIELD AND CUT ACROSS TO ESCAPE! I was floored! (By the way, this is the same Cheveron Station that I pulled over to yesterday...to clean up Reagan & throw way the "toxic bag")Now here is where you see the hand of God in this awful situation:
I look in amazement as he takes his little white car into 4x4 land and I am waiting helplessly in left turn lane watching traffic as I see him getting away. Then I see a woman pulled over on the side of that small lane waving at me. She is yelling, "I got him!" As I pull in I park next to her and she told me that she was the car behind the guy that hit me! She saw the whole thing! Wait, it gets better! She was on the phone (speaker phone) with her sister and told her sister the license plate # of the guy. Her sister wrote it down! Yes, we have the license plate #! Together, we call the police (911) and report the hit & run then the guys license plate # and the lady had a description of the guy too! Wow! The dispatcher sends an officer out to us.
While we are waiting, another lady pulls up to us. She was the driver of the car behind the other woman (which makes her two cars back from the guy). She saw the whole thing too! She saw us pull down that small side road, but when she saw the guy shoot off into the dirt field to cut across to Brimhall she went up to the light and turn left on Brimhall and FOLLOWED HIM! She followed him into a residential neighborhood and watched him get out of his car, grab his backpack and take off on foot. She got a description of what he was wearing and general body type, height, hair, etc. She came back to tell us! We (now me & my two best friends!) called 911 again and gave them the new information. So the police were able to go and try to find him (or at least the car). The ladies gave the police officer a full briefing and then he took my info as well. I will have to call back to the Police to find out what happened to the car/guy as when the police officer left me there wasn't word yet.
I am so thankful for those two ladies. They stayed with me, gave me their time and concern, information, and compassion. It's clear that God sent me two angels today.
So, what now?
The police officer was very confident they would catch the guy. If not today, by tracking him by the vehicle. Then what? Well, unfortunately not much. The officer said the laws are much too easy on a hit & run without injury. At most a $500 fine. Got to love California! :-(
I called my insurance of course. We are responsible to pay our deductible, as we don't truly don't know yet who hit us. We have uninsured motorist insurance, but we have to first prove the guy is uninsured! Crazy right! How do we do that?
1. Find out that the car is stolen. Then our insurance will bill the TRUE OWNER of the car. They will deny the claim (duh, the car was stolen!) And then it will be proven uninsured.
Or-
2. Find out that the loser that hit us is the owner of the car & that he doesn't have insurance. Then it will be uninsured motorist. (Come on! The guy RAN! Do you think he has insurance!)
Gee! What a day! I'm just thankful the kids and I are fine. Now we have a lot of junk to deal with. I will have to keep on this as nobody truly cares but us if we get our deductible back. Stinks! My bumper will need to be replaced and my towing lights etc. I don't think he even touched the paint job. His car didn't fair as well. Small (like a Taurus) car. His hood was in a upside down V. But I'm not to worried about him right now! Please pray for us as we go through this new development.

After drive-thru at McDonald's I took Garret to get his haircut tonight. I went to Super Cuts in the Market Place on Ming....staying away from Coffee. (Did I mention this is the second time I've been hit from behind on Coffee going North?) The trip and haircut went off without a hitch. Although, Garrett said the lady cutting his hair was a little rough. But hey, if that's the worst thing that happened out of the THIRD trip to get his haircut.....we don't have any problems!

The Sick, the Wounded, & the Soldier!

It has been a while since our last post...sorry! There have been many things taking up our time. I will start in the order they have occurred:

1. The Wounded. Brian went in for abdominal hernia surgery on Monday (1/12). We knew there was something "not right" about his abdominal area, but wasn't sure if there was a problem with the mesh that was currently in...or because he had lost some weight, the mesh wasn't preforming correctly. So, off to surgery he went. The surgery found that the mesh that was previously put in was "torn away" at one side. This resulted in the hernia basically hanging out! Not Good. After 1 hour & 45 minutes in surgery, he came out in good condition. The Dr. put in a really big piece of mesh (8x10) and double reinforced it. Brian had to stay in the hospital over night. We thought it was just one night, but ended up staying two nights because of the amount of pain he was in. Brian was on a Morphine pump. Gee, that is strong stuff! He was acting crazy! He doesn't remember any of it! Hopefully this will be the last surgery needed. Now, Brian is in a lot of PAIN. The stomach muscles are used for just about everything, so this is a very painful healing process for him. He has many drugs & it actually in pretty good spirits. Thank you all for your prayers and concern. Please remember Brian in your continued prayers as he recovers.

2. The Soldier. Garrett, sweet Garrett! Garrett has had a pretty tough quarter at school. They were learning the beginning concepts of Geometry (yes, third grade!) and some pretty tough stuff. Garrett is a good student, but did receive a few "B's" along the way. He wasn't sure what he would get on his report card. Well, report cards came out on Friday......(drum roll please!) STRAIGHT A's!!!! We are so PROUD of him! He was so excited. He has always gotten straight A's in the past but with the B's coming in....just wasn't as confident he pulled it off this time. But he did! So, Saturday off we went to Toys'RUs. As his reward he picked out a HUGE Nerf Gun. Garrett is a collector of Nerf Guns, so this gun has been a topic of many discussions at our house! Very Cool! One part of the gun is a (Nerf) rocket launcher. So, on top of taking care of my wounded husband....I have to dodge bullets with suction cups on the ends! Many have zipped past me and stuck to the door or window! It's like a war zone! Then there is the ROCKET! Garrett has to pump it up, then.....POP! Scares me to death. Then there is his sister screaming, "Garrett, don't shoot me!" (Which makes him want to shoot her more! Can't say I blame him sometimes, ssshhhh don't tell anyone!) After I ask him not to shoot anyone and take a break, he goes into SNIPER MODE! Sneaking, down low, crawling around furniture, with his gun site on the latest Nerf gun. Oh My! Garrett is so sweet & did such a great job at school, I don't have the heart to tell him to put it away! Did I mention it's a three day weekend? Ugh! :-)

3. The Sick. Reagan was very whinny yesterday. We chalked it up to being tired, as the schedules have been crazy this week with the hospital (sleepovers for the kids, thanks again Tracy for taking them!)This morning she woke up at 3 a.m. and said her throat hurt. I have her some Tylenol after breakfast, and off we went to get haircuts. About two miles down the road, Reagan said her tummy hurt. Not Good! Thankfully, I had a Target bag in the front seat (I had a return I was going to make after the haircuts!) I have her the plastic bag just in time...well you know what happened next, right? Garrett yelling, "Oh, no! Oh, gross!" I'm yelling, "It's okay Reagan....just make sure you hit IN THE BAG! I find the first place to pull over. A gas station. Throw the bag in the trash, take off her shirt (no, she didn't always make it in the bag...but mostly), & turn back around for home. On the return trip home we have a repeat performance....thank goodness I'm a Momma with many bags to organize my world in the car! Off to the bath for Reagan, off to clean the car for Mom. Reagan has been throwing up ever since. It's 1:00 p.m. now and she is sleeping. She isn't even keeping water down at this point. I have the "bowl" handy (Yes, Papa the bowl!) Actually, I have two now...to rotate with Lysol because she is getting sick to often and it sneaks up on her.

Wow! It that enough?! Now if I can get Brian on the mend, keep Reagan hydrated and on the road to wellness, and most importantly KEEP THEM AWAY FROM EACH OTHER I'll be doing good! If I can do all of this without getting shot by our little soldier...I'll be doing great! We do not want Brian to catch the Flu! Boy, it would be HORRIBLE if he got this! With his stomach after surgery...I'm not sure he'd survive the pain. So please PRAY! We could use it! :-)

New Goals...Computer Troubles....Brain Overload!

Wow! A New Year! I hope you all had a great time ringing in the New Year!
So, now I am on to my new goals for the year of 2009. As many of you know (if you truly know me at all), I can be very single minded when I have a new project. Brian says I tackle things as if I think I'm "MIGHTY MOUSE". My friend, Christy has turned me on to the hobby of digital scrapbooking. For my purposes, I use Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6.0 to access and create with all of the wonderful items I can download for this hobby. Well, there are TONS of digital scrapbooking kits, elements, templates, etc. out on the web. I am CRAZY over it! But it's just not enough to use the kits (colors & styles already created by other people)....I want to learn how they do that! See? The start of the madness! I have tutorials to watch, I have printed some out, I have ordered books from the library to learn from....I just have to know! This is my project for the new year...and beyond! I not only want to figure out how to use the Adobe program so that I can do the cool things....I want to create some cool things myself.
In my new quest, I realized my scanner wasn't working. I need the scanner because I want to go back and scrap all of Garrett's childhood. All of his baby pics and much of the early years are before the digital camera. It is so frustrating to not be computer savvy! I priced new all-in-one printers, but after all the effort it dawned on me.....I have a new laptop but I never loaded the printer software from our old printer! Hark! A solution! So, I run and get the disc to load only to find it's not VISTA compatible! Gee, isn't it just like the world to make us get a printer to go with VISTA! I was mad! I wanted to complain to whoever would listen at HP. That was the thought last night at least. This morning I awoke with another thought. Get on line and try to order a new "compatible" upgrade disc from HP. It may cost a few bucks, but hundreds less than a new printer. So, after research online I was able to download the upgrade free of charge. I was happy with this, but frustrated with myself that I had to go through such an emotional, lengthy thought process to come to such a simple conclusion. However, I still have a slight problem. VISTA is not programed to handle the button I have to press on my printer to start the SCAN. Fortunately, HP gave me a way around this by going into VISTA another way and "tricking" Vista to scan. Yea, it is a few more clicks....but it works! Now I just have to work through the brain overload as I try to learn the program, learn the tricks of the shading, brushing, etc. and try to be creative with the kids pics. I will be posting several of my creations along the way. Hopefully as time goes by I will improve with each layout! Here is a picture of Reagan. It was my test scan. Christmas...Going...Going....Gone!

Christmas has came and went! What a great day! The kids were so excited for Santa to come. They went to bed with an agreement for Garrett to wake up Reagan in the morning, as she usually sleeps later that the rest of us. Reagan woke up at 3:30 a.m. and came to get us up! I walked her back to bed with the promise that we wouldn't start opening presents without her. Garrett was up at 5:00 a.m , which isn't unusual. We talked him into playing in his room until 5:30, then got Reagan up for the big event. What a fun time of opening presents! The children got everything they wanted, and a few surprises that they love. Santa came through for Reagan and got her the electronic kitty she wanted (see below in one of the pics) & Santa brought Garrett a cool Nerf Wii game for the Wii System. It is all the fun of Nerf guns without having to go pick up all the darts! :-) God is so generous and good! Each of the kids made gifts at school for us and had them wrapped under the tree. They both too great pride in presenting them to us and watching us open them. We had a quiet Christmas. My parents came over for lunch, then we had the rest of the day to just enjoy our family.

So, here are some of the highlights of our morning opening presents. I know there are a lot of pictures...but I couldn't narrow it down any more!

This is no ordinary nerf gun! It's a nerf Vulcan MACHINE GUN! Rapid fire (batteries required) & BOY does it go! The only problem was it isn't running right...so we will exchange it for a new one this week. Garrett is so excited to get the new one into operation. Thanks Nana & Papa for the perfect gift for our little soldier!

As you all know, Reagan is all about the BOOTS! Aunt Danielle & Uncle David found her the perfect pink pair! She wore them all day (even with her pj's) and everyday since!

Hark, An Angel Has Come!

Our family went out today for a late lunch. We are on the BIG COUNT DOWN to Christmas, as the kids are anxious for the big day. Garrett was doing the math on how many days left (and Reagan was confirming his math...."Good job Garrett, you're right!"). Then Garrett declared he was a little Naughty & a little Nice this year. I said probably fifty-fifty, so he has a 50% chance of getting a present from Santa this year. He thought deeply about this while Brian & I carried on another conversation. Garrett then told us that he was sure he was more like 65% Nice and only 35% Naughty! So that gave him a better chance at a present. Then, like a light that shined down on Garrett.....the Christmas Angel Came! As we drove home, Brian & I heard him ask Reagan (very nicely, I might add) to PLEASE be nice to him for the next five days til Christmas so he wouldn't have to get mad at her and get in a fight! Then he offered to play with her when we got home! He offered to do more than the homework assigned to him for today, and was even heard wishing his sister a Merry Christmas (when he thought no one was listening!). Who is this boy that is behaving with Christmas Angel qualities? I will not question this, but enjoy the result. For even if he is making up for the Naughty 35%...it's going to be a great five days!

Oh, The Memories!

Garrett and Reagan got early Christmas gifts from our friends Sandra & Gary this year. The kids received gift cards to Target. So, off we went with the cards in their hot little hands to bring home treasures! Garrett brought home a Cartoon Network Racing Game for the PlayStation2. He shopped carefully and found something below the amount of the gift card, with a small amount remaining toward his next trip. Reagan looked high and low. She wanted many things, about everything she saw actually! Then suddenly there it was.....The Easy Bake Oven! It was all over after that. The choice was made, no more discussion needed. I put it in the cart eagerly myself, remembering my first Easy Bake Oven. I was five years old and my Nana & Papa got it for me for Christmas. It was PERFECT! I loved my Easy Bake Oven. So this weekend Reagan made sugar cookies for Garrett & a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for her Daddy. You should have seen Brian eat the cake made especially for him! Reagan was so proud to make these special treats for her family. The look on her sweet face was priceless. We will have many more days baking together, she with her oven & me with mine. I know it was special when I made things with my Easy Bake Oven as a child, but there is nothing better than sharing that joy with our little girl. Truly a priceless memory.

It's A Girl Thing!

Boys and girls are so different! Garrett wears whatever I lay out in the morning for him. Sure, he approves the clothes I buy for him after I bring them home...but for the most part no fuss. Reagan on the other hand....well, let's just say she has definite opinions about her wardrobe. She loves pink & purple. Shoes are a thing to collect. And pretty dresses & tights are a must. We agree for the most part. However, there are those times when we don't see eye to eye. She's only 4! Wow! Her Dad & I are in for many years of debate! For example: It's all about the boots. It took months (I'm being literal here in the time frame) to find just the right boots! We looked everywhere! "No Mom, those are not the right color pink." OR "These would be fine if they just went higher on my leg." I could go on & on, but you get my point right? We finally found the PERFECT BOOTS. They are black & cover most of her calf (riding boot style). Reagan wears them every day. We plan her outfits around the boots! Does this sound familiar to anyone else with a girl? Christmas Season Has Arrived!

Well, today it happened. We got all the indoor Christmas decorations out. The kids were so helpful this year with the tree. As many of you know, I collect Santa ornaments for our tree. Each one is hand wrapped in tissue paper. Both, Reagan & Garrett waited while I unwrapped each one for them...then they ran to the tree to find the perfect spot. It was a lot of fun! Then, it was picture time. Not as much fun for the kids....but they were troopers. It took awhile, again I'm not the best picture gal! Above is my cuties letting loose in the middle of the photo shoot. Aren't they the sweetest? I will post a few more pictures this weekend. I am still playing with my Photo Shop program....so far it's winning! But, it will not get the best of me! Oh No! We are going to settle down tonight to Little Caesar's Pizza (a Friday night tradition) & the movie Polar Express (a start of the Christmas Season tradition). I look forward to it every year. It's so fun to sit with the family with big bowls of popcorn and watch the children take it in. I love the discussion with the kids after as they talk of what it means to believe. What a blessed day! We are all home together, the turkey is in the oven, & I've just went through the Big Sale Ads. As Garrett likes to say, "It doesn't get any better than this! Good times, good times!" It is just our family sharing the day, so not only do we have a ton of yummy food, but we don't need to get dressed up or leave the house! What a relaxing day. We are so thankful for all that God has given us this year. He is so faithful to provide for our needs and generous with the desires of our hearts. We've been asking the kids what they are thankful for lately (in the planning for this day) and here is what they said:

Garrett: "I am thankful for all the blessings God has given me. Like my parents, Reagan, and my friends. Oh, and my go-cart, PS2, and yeah that's a lot."

Reagan: "I am thankful that Santa can bring me some toys. I'm thankful for all of the people He loves. I'm thankful Daddy works to give me some money. And I'm thankful that God loves our family. And that's it."

We hope you have a terrific Thanksgiving! I am getting out all the Christmas decorations tomorrow (as is our tradition) while Brian is at work. It's fun to put on a pot of turkey noodle soup and kick off the Christmas Season. Brian will do the lights and decorations outside this weekend with the kids. I will post pictures of the kids tomorrow.

The Seasons Of Life

Last week I was at Sam's Club. I was with Reagan doing my normal shopping. As I was in line to check out, I looked over several check out counters and saw someone I had worked with at Pizazz several years ago. We haven't stayed in touch, we were simply friendly co-workers. I've seen her several times in Sam's Club & have said hello in passing. This particular day I was just watching her with her young son. She never saw me, but I loved the smile on her face as she spoke to her son. It made me think...how do people see me when I don't think anyone is looking? It touched my heart as I thought of what a good Mom she was and how much she obviously enjoyed her family. I made a mental note & promise to myself to not get so hurried, stress, and annoyed with my children. To remember to love them in every moment, to have patience and enjoy them in this Season.
I tell you this story because it was a "light bulb" moment for me. The other reason I share it is because this dear, sweet Mom I am telling you about died this past Tuesday. She was 39 years old & left behind her husband and two sons (6 & 8 yrs old). It's not yet clear what took her life, the doctors are still looking into the actual cause. The one thing is clear....it was her time for God to carry her home. Life is but a Season. We are honored and blessed to spend each day and every single moment with our family and friends. It is my prayer that I treasure each moment with my children and wonderful husband. I pray that I don't stand in line so annoyed with my children's "childish" behavior that I miss the child-like smiles and joy of that moment and share in the joy. I realize I rob myself of many joyous moments that God has given. So I share this as a reminder to myself that life is short and precious, but most importantly...so is the time with my children. I thank God for my friend/co-worker. She touched my life without even being aware of it. I pray for her family in this Season of their life. It will be difficult. I pray they will find peace and joy again.

The Happiest Place On Earth!

We went to Disneyland! Let me just say that before we left Brian & I prayed for a smooth trip to enjoy our kids. God answered our prayers & like our Father often does blessed it beyond what we hoped and prayed for! We had the most blessed trip! The weather was a terrific 73 degrees. There wasn't very many people there, we walked onto many rides! The most we waited was about 20 minutes. Not bad! We watched the parade for the first time, went on all of the rides (many 4 or 5 times), and stayed at the Disneyland Hotel with a wonderful view of Downtown Disney. This was a blessed trip! It was a joy for us to watch our children's faces light up with excitement on the rides. The last time we went, Reagan was 2 1/2 so this time she really got into it! She is fearless like her Daddy! Reagan went on everything! And her first words when the ride ended was "Let's do that again"! Garrett tackled all the rides like a pro! We stayed at Disneyland from Monday to Wednesday, & I can't say who was more tired on Wednesday the kids or us! God is so good to give us this opportunity! I am so thankful for a husband that works so hard to provide for his family, not only the necessities but the special times like this one. Our family is truly blessed and the best part was that we shared this time together. I leave you with MANY pictures. Too Cute To Spook!

As we are starting this Blog a little late, I am going back in time just a bit! This is Halloween. Garrett was a Ninja and Reagan was "Hannah Montana" with many other little girls her age this year. The kids went to the church Harvest Fair and had a great time. They will be eating Halloween candy well into the new year!

Our family carved pumpkins the night before Halloween. It takes awhile to do and Brian & I usually get stuck finishing up! We have a computer program for the kids that allows them to create the pattern for their own pumpkin. Here are the results!

Our Trip To Mexico!

Brian & I went to Mexico...Cabo San Lucas to be exact. We went without the children and enjoyed four days there. It was great. We missed the kids, but it was good to have some much needed couple time. The trip was earned by Brian through work and there were some other Seven Up couples there. We went jet skiing out in the ocean, parasailing, and Brian went snorkeling. No, I do not swim with other living things in the ocean! I have a thing about "when animals attack"! Here is the hotel we stayed at. The picture above is from our hotel balcony. We enjoyed our trip and gave our passports there first use!

Okay, I know this is different for us....but we (and by we, I mean me Debbie!) are going to give this Blog thing a try! Why you ask? Well, many have said they would like to see more pictures of our family than just the yearly Christmas card photo. I tried Face Book and just couldn't get into it. I just didn't feel comfortable with it. I've been reading my friend's Blog for her family, and just like the flow of it. So, here we are....The Sutton Family 4. I will post again and begin with pictures of the recent things for our family. It's holiday season, so it's a good time to give this Blog site a real chance. I hope you like it!
